Much of the built environment in the US is struggling with identity. There are many precedents of places that work, but so often they are overlooked as ordinary, mundane, vernacular, or background to our experience of a city. Here is a collection of places that offer something special.
Parking is located behind the stores on California Avenue, which helps to define and concentrate the activity on the street. This would have been a long block to walk around if not for the alleys that allow people through at frequent intervals.
